Summary:

To plan, organize, and direct an accounting and/or auditing program; perform related work.

Reclassed position, approval on file.

Responsibilities:

Incumbents recommend hiring staff and train and evaluate their performance. They may design, develop, or oversee the development of and changes to financial reporting and management systems and direct their implementation. Incumbents develop and recommend financial policy and procedures. Incumbents plan and direct major specialized units and may perform complex accounting, auditing, or budgeting reviews and analyses. They ensure financial systems and documents are in compliance with laws, policies, standards, and regulations and with generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Incumbents define issues and take adversarial positions. Their actions have significant legal ramifications. Incumbents prepare or oversee the preparation of a variety of financial/audit documents. They provide professional consultation regarding financial matters and in the application of information technology issues to support various financial requirements.

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Minimum Qualifications: Good knowledge of: Accounting principles and practices Supervisory practicesExperience: Analyzing financial and auditing data Auditing or designing financial systems Establishing internal financial or auditing controls Preparing and making oral presentations MQ Specialties: Some positions are filled by specialty areas such as tax / utility / internal auditing.Experience: General ledger accounting system and preparing monthly financial statements Budget development and budgetary control Forecasting and cash management in an enterprise accounting environment Using Microsoft Excel or equivalent spreadsheet software to perform complex financial functions Recommending and implementing process changes to gain efficiency
