When you join the Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division (COGMD), you’re joining a global team that helps to power the global energy industry as well as provide power and propulsion on the water.

The Configurator Systems Integration Senior Engineer concepts, architects and integrates new products, components, or technologies.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Researching and developing design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of new products and components.

• Guiding the evolution of the technical design, technical project planning, performance analysis, and development testing. Participating in supplier selection and capabilities assessment.

• Monitoring, exploring, and testing new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.

• Constructing and fabricating prototype equipment; overseeing materials selection, process optimization and process yield, as well as reliability testing and failure analysis.

• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

• Working with dealers and customers providing answers to technical application questions and providing quotations for sales opportunities, combined with direct installation support. This may include troubleshooting, diagnosis, and verification of installations, including up to 20% travel to vessel sites.

Quality Management : Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

• Applies key aspects of continuous improvement processes and evaluates impact on quality.

• Uses quality evaluation tools and techniques such as walkthroughs and inspections.

Analytical Thinking : Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of installation problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

• Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.

• Quantifies the costs, benefits, risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.

• Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.

Effective Communications : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

• Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient.

• Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness.

• Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for work.

Problem Solving : Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

• Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.

• Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder.

• Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.
