Modeling and Simulation Software Engineer

Position Description

April 5, 2024

Join our team and help us build a cutting-edge platform for the next generation of air traffic management simulation and research. The National Airspace System (NAS) Digital Twin (NDT) will be an environment for building and running diverse, realistic simulations of current and future airspace operations. The NDT will be a scalable, highly flexible platform that allows many different types of simulations including fast-time and real-time operating modes. We are developing a platform that allows playback of historical or live NAS traffic to be combined with simulated aircraft to create a detailed live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) environment. The NDT will be the foundation for the development of air traffic management concepts through the entire Technology Readiness Level (TRL) scale from initial concept to field evaluations. The successful candidate is a motivated self-starter with a passion for modeling and simulation (ideally in an aerospace environment) with extensive software engineering experience.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

  • At least 8 years of experience developing complex, scalable applications in Java and/or another object-oriented language

  • Demonstrated proficiency in algorithm design

  • Deep knowledge of data structures and data analysis

  • Have a passion for quality and writing clean, solid, readable code that scales and performs well. Strong desire to learn, push the envelope, and share knowledge with others.

  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills

  • Extra credit: Provide your GitHub account or StackOverflow profile with your resume!

    Other desired skills:

  • Strong proficiency in mathematics, particularly statistics, linear algebra, or calculus

  • Strong familiarity with aircraft operations or NAS operations domains

  • Experience engineering software systems of medium-to-large scope and complexity

  • Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, scrum)
