Job Summary The Kindergarten Bridge Program is a five-week summer program for rising Kindergarten students to help prepare children and their families for the transition to Kindergarten in the fall. Summer program activities will focus on building school routines and lessons will support early-literacy, early-numeracy, and social emotional skills. Lesson plans will be provided, and the Teacher Leader will support teachers as they develop their classroom management styles. Action for Early Learning (AFEL) and Drexel School of Education seek graduate students in Education to serve as a mentor for program teachers, working directly with undergraduate teacher education students throughout the 5-week program. The Teacher Leader will also work closely with the Program Admin to hire and train program teachers, as well as observe and provide feedback using an asset-based coaching model. The Teacher Leader serves as the instructional lead for the program staff (undergraduate teacher education students), coaching and mentoring preservice teachers as they teach in the classroom. The Teacher Leader will support and guide program teachers as they co-teach a classroom of up to 20 rising Kindergarten students. Teacher Leaders will model lessons, provide real-time feedback, and asset-based coaching throughout the program day. West Philadelphia School Site Location: Samuel Powel School (3610 Warren St) North Philadelphia School Site Location: William Cramp School (3449 N. Mascher Street) Programming will run from Monday to Friday for 5 weeks (July 1 - Aug 2), with planning and training beginning June 20. The Lead Teacher is expected to commit to 30 hours per week for the entire 6 weeks. As this position works directly with minors, all staff will need to complete the Pennsylvania Enhanced Background Certification. Essential Functions Mentoring and coaching teachers as they lead daily lessons in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development (lesson plans provided). Supporting teachers in day-to-day communication with families. Support program implementation, including classroom set-up and student data collection. Coaching teachers with developing classroom management strategies. Supervising outdoor play and lunchtime Required Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master's or Doctoral degree in education. Previous experience working with young children (0-8 years). Previous experience teaching children. Reliable transportation/access to public transportation to get to school site. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with English Language Learners. Bi-lingual English and Spanish (for North Philly site). Strong interest in education, WPPN and AFEL missions, and community work. Location Philadelphia, PA Additional Information This is a Part-time Temporary position classified as non-exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
