JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Berks (https://berks.psu.edu/) ’ s Thun Library is looking for a Library Services Associate ( Library Services Associate – Intermediate Support or Senior Support (https://app.ohr.psu.edu/JobCatalog/job/view/jobCode/PSU0243) ) . The Library Services Associate provides circulation, reference, course reserve and interlibrary loan services; supports processing and maintenance activities and ensures adherence to library guidelines and policies. This position is responsible for providing circulation services , course reserves, and assisting the team with special projects. This position is a n 82.5% FTE position (33 hours per week , year round ) , with benefits outlined in HR105 Reduced FTE positions (https://policies.psu.edu/policies/hr105) , and a Grade 5 salary prorated based on the employee’s FTE (as listed in the job catalog (https://app.ohr.psu.edu/JobCatalog/job/view/jobCode/PSU0243) ). This is an on-site , year-round position with limited opportunity for a flexi ble work arrangement (https://hr.psu.edu/current-employee/flexible-work-arrangements) . The core hours of this position are Monday through Thursday 2pm – 9pm and Sundays 2pm – 8pm. Core hours will change during breaks and summers in alignment with the academic school year (https://registrar.psu.edu/academic-calendars/2024-25.cfm) . Training is provided for all functions of the position .

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for providing outstanding service to our community (direct interaction with students, staff, faculty, and community members) with empathy and clear communication.

  • Serve as the lead for local campus Course Reserve processing and training. Processing may includ e actively researching required texts for campus courses, working with the Acquisitions Specialist to acquire course materials, and processing physical and electronic materials . Training may include s erv ing as the local point of contact for course reserves, d eliver ing local reference and technical assistance , copyright assistance , and training .

  • Hire, supervise, schedule, mentor, and train the library’s college students who are employed as Student Library Assistants (SLAs) at the circulation desk.

  • Work closely with Library Services Manager to propose, strategize, and oversee student portion of the wage budget.

  • Training provided for c rossover duties and responsibilities that may include : a ssist with all aspects of the delivery of ILL services at the campus; a ssist with b asic collection maintenance; c ollaborat e with Thun staff and local campus IT to provide services and maintain equipment.

  • Serve on campus, library, or university committees as desired.

    Looking for these requirements:

  • Intermediate Support Level: High School Diploma/GED or Vocational Training/Degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Senior Support Level: Associate's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Customer service experience through work, volunteering, or personal projects.

  • Ability to effectively communicate through chat, email, and in-person.

  • Competence in using multiple systems, websites, and tabs to checkout items and locate information.

  • Can sit or stand at the circulation desk for 4+ hours at a time, guide a patron around the library, push/pull a book cart up to 50 lbs. , lift books and/or equipment, kneel to browse low shelves, use a kick stool to browse high shelves. The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
