Location: Santa Barbara, CA or Boston, MA Travel: some coast-to-coast travel and occasional in-region travel Sonos is seeking an Principal Electrical Engineer with a solid track record in successful high speed digital design, with an emphasis on embedded CPU architectures. The Electrical Engineering team creates the Embedded System used by our Software and Audio Engineers to deliver premium sound, and to delight our customers! As a member of the Electrical Engineering Team you will own the embedded system design for new Sonos products and will collaborate with the cross functional team that takes that product from inception to production. In our Boston and Santa Barbara offices we have fully stocked electronics labs, state-of-the-art anechoic chambers, isolated radio screening rooms, comfy listening rooms...and we all share a passion for making great audio products! What You'll Do: You will work across product management and engineering disciplines to gather design input and formalize that input into a Comprehensive Design Specification You will align the needs presented in the Design Specification with an embedded design architecture and supporting peripherals that meet the overall system design targets You will ensure the final design meets its specified goals through rigorous analytical reviews and physical testing and that it is compliant with all industry standards and regulatory requirements. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent STEM degree, with 8+ years of related industry experience OR Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent STEM degree with 6+ years of related industry experience Experience with modern digital system design. This should include a solid understanding of how to design peripheral support for an embedded CPU. Examples of that understanding include design knowledge of various memory standards (JEDEC DDR and MMC) and various serial IO standards ranging from KHz to GHz operating speeds. Strong test validation development and troubleshooting background Experience with low voltage power architectures needed to support a modern digital design. This should include design of DC to DC regulation down to 1V with a BUCK or LDO circuit based on required load, efficiencies, and device input limits Experience with high speed (100+ MHz), constraint driven PCB Design. Constraints should be sourced from component or interface standard review as well as high speed simulation results (Spice/IBIS). Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with microcontrollers (MCU), digital signal processors (DSP), and/or audio system on chips (SoC) Experience with wireless embedded systems a plus At Sonos we consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may lead individual compensation to vary depending on job related qualifications, skills, and experience. All full time employees are eligible for merit increases, discretionary bonuses, and equity. Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions.
