Amazon Senior Program Manager, Sustainability, Amazon Logistics Japan in Tokyo, Japan

You will be responsible for developing strategy and executing programs that reduce carbon emissions and improve the sustainability of our in-station and road operations. As a Program Manager in AMZL (Amazon Logistics) Sustainability, you’ll be responsible for conceptualizing new and disruptive ways to reduce carbon emissions and to improve the sustainability based on our strategy and vision. This role is inherently cross-functional, so you'll work closely with operations, tech, finance and deployment teams to identify and implement customer experience, sustainability and cost saving improvements. You will be highly analytical, able to work effectively in a complex matrix organization, adept at synthesizing information into improvement plans and confident delivering at scale.

We are seeking an experienced leader with a strong record of achieving results, to build and scale this parcel delivery network in Japan. We are looking for someone that can drive national expansion of several strategic programs. If you have prior success in program management, operations, or final mile transportation this is a great opportunity. The Senior Program Manager, Sustainability will work with multiple teams within the Supply Chain and Retail functions to deliver a World Class Customer Experience and drive Net-Zero Carbon Initiatives, and work on creating last-mile service and delivery process improvements while launching new markets. The role entails strategic leadership with both internal and external stakeholders to build a world class delivery experience for long term at the right cost with a customer backwards approach.

You will drive programs, partnerships, innovations and features and will lead sustainability projects for Amazon Logistics Last Mile Delivery Under-the-Roof and with tech, BI and analytics teams to create a robust and sustainable carbon-free infrastructure to achieve climate goals for Amazon Logistics in Japan. This role offers the opportunity to partner closely with multiple functions and teams including internal teams of Delivery Station Operations, different Program Stakeholders, Tech teams and World-Wide Sustainability teams, and other external partners, such as Waste vendors. The ability to influence others without authority and speed to execution will be critical to success in this role. The ideal candidate possesses a track record of successful relationship management, program and project management, strong analytical and business acumen, and experience managing reporting and analysis. Great communication skills, Bias for Action, Delivery Results and Think big will be essential to your success. The candidate is a self-starter who will take ownership of program and business problems to drive strategy, execution and delivery successful result.

Key job responsibilities

• Define, organize and drive the sustainability program for operations and work closely with Operations stakeholders to fulfill open actions

• Develop a robust infrastructure under the roof for processing carbon free operations to achieve Amazon Logistics Shipment Zero Goals

• Develop ideas with Engineering and Facility teams to reduce energy and building related carbon emission drivers

• Create program and execution strategies, setting priorities and communicating across business partners and stakeholders

• Strategize and deliver on long-term glide path and short-medium term Sustainability Action Plans for Amazon Logistics Japan

• Translate the customer and employee experience into a logical sequence and map our roadmap and program initiatives to measurable business value

• Lead cross-functionally and cross-regionally to ensure we implement the business vision and operational goals efficiently

• Work with operations, product, legal and compliance, finance, tech and worldwide sustainability teams to make prioritization/emulate good practices and conceptualize and implement program and tech interventions

• Coordinate with team across various regions and geographies to understand the implemented sustainability models in last mile

• Bring creative ideas to improve utility consumptions, waste segregation and reduction to run more sustainable and cost optimized delivery stations

• Work closely with tech, business intelligence and analytics teams to drive data accuracy and tier maturity for sustainability in Amazon Logistics Japan

• Conduct quick pilot projects to gather learnings, identify and implement the best scalable solution for Last Mile logistics interventions

• Identify cost saving opportunities and execute raising the bar on customer and partner experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 5+ years of program / project / product management experience

  • Proficiency with data tools/systems including Excel

  • Business Level of English and Japanese

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree/MBA

  • Experience in relevant fields (Sustainability, Environmental Management, Engineering)

  • Experienced in working with distributed teams, often in different countries

  • Experience with logistics/e-retail

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous, deadline-oriented work environment

  • Leading new or start-up related projects where processes will need to be defined, implemented and iterated within last mile

  • Experience with SQL and tools such as Tableau

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Excited about working in a diverse group and contributing to an inclusive culture
