JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Professional Graduate Programs (PGP) in Penn State’s Smeal College of Business is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional for the position of Director of Graduate Career Services to lead our efforts in guiding and supporting the career development and job search endeavors of graduate students enrolled in our resident MBA and specialty masters programs.

The Director of Graduate Career Services is responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance career services, foster employer relationships, and facilitate successful outcomes for graduates. This role involves collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and academic departments to create a culture of student success.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for career services aligned with the goals and mission of the business school.

  • Student and Alumni Support: Provide personalized career counseling, resume reviews, mock interviews, and job search strategy guidance to students.

  • Employer Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with a diverse range of employers to facilitate internship and job opportunities for students and graduates.

  • Career Development Programs: Design and deliver workshops, seminars, and events to enhance students' professional skills, career readiness, and industry knowledge.

  • Job Placement Assistance: Develop and implement initiatives to increase job placement rates, including coordinating events such as career fairs, networking opportunities, and on-campus recruitment activities.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on employment outcomes data to assess the effectiveness of career services programs and inform strategic decision-making.

  • Alumni Relations: Engage alumni as mentors, guest speakers, and industry contacts to support current students' career exploration and networking efforts.

  • Budget Management: Manage the career services budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to support programmatic needs and initiatives.

  • Technology Integration: Stay abreast of trends in career services technology and implement innovative tools and platforms to enhance service delivery and accessibility.

  • Collaboration and Team Leadership: Work closely with Managing Director, Director of Student Success, and Director of Admissions to create action plans and outcomes for overall student success throughout the programs. Collaborate with staff, faculty, and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals and objectives.

  • Staff Supervision: Lead and mentor career services team, as well as provide training and support for their professional development. Create and foster a collaborative team environment dedicated to student success.

Qualifications:

This position requires a master's degree as well as a minimum of six years of relevant experience in higher education, student/career services, or a related field where able to demonstrate a track record of improving student outcomes. Prior experience as an academic counselor as well as in program development and assessment is ideal. Candidate should possess strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills and have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. Must have a proficiency in data analysis and a commitment to data-driven decision making. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in career services and student success are key.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
