Description and Requirements

The position is for a Mechanical Engineer in the Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG), based in Bangalore, Karnataka. This is an exciting role in the ThinkSystem Server Development organization that has a strong focus to be the #1 trusted IT Partner in the Datacenter market. The pace of technological change in this market is rapid, and our development engineers are constantly challenged to improve the mechanical performance and efficiency of our products. Lenovo is looking for an engineer with a strong desire to innovate mechanical solutions for our server products.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include:

  • Create in-house developed server designs including printed circuit board layouts, structural sheet metal enclosures, and plastic part designs in our next-generation servers.

  • Work with architects to close on a design concept, then develop and validate the design.

  • Candidate must be capable of creating designs, evaluating other team member’s designs, and solving design bugs when they arise Write test plans and conduct thermal tests to qualify the design

  • Candidate must be able to work in a close team environment, interacting with the thermal, power, system, and extended team members, to achieve a design, which meets the business and marketing requirements.

  • In addition, this candidate will be responsible for contributing to common building block designs used across our portfolio.

  • Solve design bugs when they arise.

  • Analyze mechanical solutions provided to compare with various options and optimize cost vs performance

  • Proficiency in building proof-of -concept (POC) mechanical solutions

  • Collaborate with the thermal, power, system, and extended team members, to achieve a design, which meets the business and marketing requirements.

  • Contribute to common building block designs used across our portfolio. You will report weekly project status to management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Technical skills required include three-dimensional computer design engineering skills, including sheet metal and plastic part design.

  • 7+ years of experience using the PTC Creo CAD tool and PTC Windchill for CAD data file management.

  • Skills to manage engineering changes, bill of material creation, cost estimating, and tolerance analysis are required.

  • Knowledge of server industry standards and compliance industry standards is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree OR research in the relevant field

  • Hands on experience with assembling and testing servers, and using basic mechanical tools is a plus

  • Data acquisition and the ability to organize and summarize results is required.

  • Code skills such as Matlab, Python, or Java to automate data collection and report generation is desired.

  • Knowledge of computer firmware code and algorithms that set operating points, and fault conditions is desired.

  • Knowledge of CAD, material strength, power consumption, and acoustics requirements and the impact of thermal designs on them is desired.
